I have nausea and sickness everyday. I’ve lost a lot of weight. My symptoms are every day. I tried lanzoprozol for excess acid but they did not help.
Acid Reflux and GERD
The mucus doesn’t just form a physical barrier to HCl; it also contains high volumes of bicarbonate, which helps neutralize the acid when it comes into contact with your stomach lining. Together, these substances give stomach acid a pH of around 1 to 2, which is almost as acidic as you can get on the pH scale. According to the February 2012 issue of ChemMatters, a publication produced by the American Chemical Society, your body makes two to three liters of stomach acid every day. Hydrochloric acid is a primary component of your stomach acid, accounting for 0.5 percent of its total volume; however, that’s not the only important substance.

If your thyroid is malfunctioning due to low stomach acid it is always, or almost always, in the way that makes you gain weight. There are other things I have read, about how your adrenal glands, pancreas, liver and thyroid are affected by low stomach acid.Your body is a system and that system relies on proper nutrition as fuel. When it doesn’t get it, because of malabsorption, it 1) drives you to eat more 2) becomes unbalanced and starts craving things that produce quick energy (carbohydrates) 3) fails to properly kick off all the reactions that are necessary to keep all the various bits of you in working order. Low stomach acid can cause allergic reaction in foods, which, for some people clear up once they can properly digest those foods. Allergies can lead to weight gain.
@[email protected] I have tried apple cider vinegar, I think it’s an excellent overall tonic, and helps stomach upset too, but just not as effective as the Betaine Hcl pills. I am not sure about the iodine being important and that is an interesting angle that I’d like to look into, however I do know that the body needs zinc and B1 to make HCL. So, deficiencies should be addressed. Is it low in the diet, or is it not being absorbe?
The resulting highly acidic environment in the stomach lumen causes proteins from food to lose their characteristic folded structure (or denature). This exposes the protein’s peptide bonds.
To test the ability of cells in the stomach to release acid, gastrin may be injected just under the skin, into a muscle, or into a vein. The stomach contents are then removed and analyzed.” (50 years ago insteed of gastrin doctors used meat broth or cabbige juice).
Interesting stuff. I just did the soda test and guess what? I did not burp whatsoever. Instead I have had liquid coming back up my throat. Granted this only the first test but it seems telling to me.
Digestive enzymes and HCL supplements
Under these circumstances, a person may take antacid tablets, which often contain sodium bicarbonate. Symptoms of low stomach acid may include stomach discomfort, bloating, heartburn, and/or nausea. These symptoms can also be caused by other conditions, however. A doctor should be consulted if the symptoms are present in order to receive a diagnosis for the problem.
